
From January 10 to February 10, 2025, the East Kazakhstan Regional Library named after A.S. Pushkin began accepting applications and creative works for participation in the "Gabdullin Readings - 2025" contest, dedicated to the work of the poet, member of the Kazakhstan Writers' Union, and honorary citizen of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Serik Gabdullin.
The purpose of the event: to study and popularize the creative heritage of Serik Gabdullin, to develop the literary creativity of young people.
Serik Gabdullin was born in 1937 in the village of Shymkora, Ulan district. He graduated from the philological faculty of Kazakh State University in Almaty in 1966. He began his career in the newspaper "Kommunizm tuy" (now "Didar") in Ust-Kamenogorsk, where he worked his way up from a junior literary employee to a department head.
Serik Gabdullin holds a special place in the life of the region. Since 1991, he has been the chairman of the regional branch of the International Society "Kazakh Tili". He initiated the creation of the "Cultural Center" for representatives of other nationalities living in Ust-Kamenogorsk, as well as the creation of the regional "Council of Elders". In those years, he opened the regional aytys (traditional Kazakh poetry contest) and the Ust-Kamenogorsk city school of young poets "Shabyt", and led the creative development of young talents.
In 2007, he was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and in 2009 he was awarded the title of "Honored Journalist of Kazakhstan".
His books include "Koktem lebi", "Buktyrma saryny", "Koktem - kokorem shagym", "Ak bosaga", "Jylardan jetken jangyryk", and others, as well as a two-volume collection of works dedicated to his 70th birthday. On his 75th birthday, a collection of poems from the "Altai-Ertis Library" series was published. He passed away on January 22, 2014, in Ust-Kamenogorsk. He was buried in his native village of Shymkora, Ulan district.
Participants: Students of secondary schools (grades 5-8), high school students (grades 9-11), and students of secondary vocational and higher educational institutions can participate in the contest.
The contest is held in the state language in the following areas:
Original poems dedicated to S. Gabdullin;
Expressive reading of S. Gabdullin's poems.
Participants can only try their hand at one of the tasks.
Following the results of the contest, the winners will be awarded prizes, and the results will be posted on the library's website and on the library's social media pages.
The awards ceremony for the winners of the contest will be held on February 19 at 2:00 pm in the East Kazakhstan Regional Library named after A.S. Pushkin.
