    Kenyan diplomats briefed on Kazakhstan’s political reforms and the heritage of the Great Steppe

    Nairobi, June 11, 2026 — The Foreign Service Academy of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya hosted a lecture by His Excellency Barlybay Sadykov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Kenya and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office at Nairobi. The lecture focused on the history, domestic and foreign policy of Kazakhstan, as well as the prospects for bilateral cooperation with Kenya.

    The event was attended by the leadership and trainees of the Foreign Service Academy, newly appointed ambassadors, and officials of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya.

    Providing an overview of Kazakhstan's history, B. Sadykov elaborated on the origins of Kazakh statehood, emphasizing that modern Kazakhstan is the direct historical successor to the Golden Horde (Ulus of Jochi). The Ambassador underscored the importance of historical research and the implementation of international projects dedicated to studying the cultural heritage of past eras.

Sadykov also briefed the participants on the large-scale political reforms being implemented in the country, including the adoption of the new Constitution and the upcoming general parliamentary elections to the Kurultai scheduled for August 2026. Touching upon Astana's international positioning, the Ambassador outlined the core pillars of Kazakhstan's foreign policy and emphasized the nation's steadfast commitment to a multi-vector policy, the strengthening of global security, and the defense of the norms of international law.

    The participants of the meeting were briefed on the outcomes of the recent state visit of William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, to the Republic of Kazakhstan. The visit laid a solid foundation for a qualitatively new stage in bilateral relations, opening up broad prospects for trade, economic, investment, and humanitarian cooperation between Astana and Nairobi.

    B. Sadykov addressed numerous questions from the audience and expressed firm confidence in the further strengthening of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two states.
